Telescopic and Upside Down Shock Breaker Comparison
The suspension system is a series of components that have the main task of absorbing vibrations from the wheels so as not to reach the body of the motorcycle. The working principle of suspension, is to use elastic material that has a tolerance to pressure suddenly. In other words, the material used in this suspension when one ear is suddenly compressed then the other end must not be affected or the effect is smaller. In addition, the material used must also be strong and resistant to deformation due to the compressive force worn continuously. Therefore, elastic steel is made specifically with a mixture of several other metals.
Motorcycle front suspension system is an integral part of the steering system, because the construction of the front suspension is strung together into a single unit with the steering wheel. The completeness of the steering functions as the driver of the road vehicle. In addition to the short appearance of the steering handlebar is another element that must be taken into account. The long steering wheel will be lightly moved, but the vehicle becomes less agile. Conversely the short steering rod makes the vehicle movements become agile, but heavy to control.
The connection of the fork suspension with the vehicle’s chassis through the steering greatly affects the stability of the control of the motorcycle steering system, therefore it must be calculated precisely the magnitude of the tilt angle to adjust to the needs where the vehicle will be used. The slope is known as the caster angle (see picture above). With a small caster angle means controlling the motorcycle feels good for a straight road at high speed. But at low speeds, the control feels heavy and is less comfortable for cornering.
Front shock breaker or people call the front suspension has a function as a buffer and also supporting the motor, especially on the front, the core task of the shock breaker is as a shock absorber from uneven roads. There are several types of front suspension that are the most widely used, in general motorbikes, there are telescopic types and up site down types or people are more familiar with the term Upside Down.
- Telescopic Shock Breaker
This type of shock breaker of course we have often seen on the highway, and almost all motorcycles in Indonesia, especially on automatic motorcycles, ducks, and motor sports equipped with using telescopic suspension. This telescopic shock breaker has a telescopic pipe compression construction that is connected to a spring section held in the pipe. Then the rebound is regulated by circulating oil through a flute pipe in a tube connected to the front axle using a spring in the tube by utilizing oil circulation.
This type of shock absorber has quite mild attenuation and sometimes is too flexible, this type of suspension is suitable for motorcycles used in the city or for sport motorcycles with heavy weights and adventure motors that pass across uneven terrain (ground) damaged roads and bumpy roads.
This type of telescopic shock breaker is of course rarely seen in official road races, for example, Moto GP bike, and no one uses it at all, because this telescopic suspension is less stable if used for high speeds.

Shock breaker treatment is easier:

- Upside Down Shock Breaker
The next type of shock breaker that is Upside Down or people call the term shock USD, this type of shock we often see on motorcycles that have high capacity engine specifications or sport bike. Material from the shock breaker type Upside Down uses high quality materials made from aluminium and magnesium. The suspension has a triangular bound tube construction, while the telescopic pipe has a smaller diameter than the tube, bound to the front axle adapter. Then it looks like it’s moving on the pipe, not the tube like a motor sport, a duck or a scooter. If the USD looks like quaint shock has a distinctive appearance that is usually gold (gold).
This upside down suspension has a harder damping compared to the telescopic suspension type, and this type of shock is very suitable for high speeds, motors that use USD generally have a large capacity. Examples of Moto GP and Superbike. Although this USD type shock is not suitable for daily use and also the rebound is quite long & hard enough to make a fast back achy, but this upside down type shock was satisfied with the cool appearance design or the language of eye catchy and has a thick tube thickness that looks large.

- More stable is used when the motor is driven at high speed.
Lack of Shock Breaker Type Upside Down:
- Upside down shock type prone to broken and also often leak (if sustaining too heavy weight) or often used for wheelie)
